Three Students Awarded 2022 GFWAR Educational Foundation Scholarships

The GFWAR Educational Foundation awarded scholarships to three Fort Worth-area high school seniors. Abigail Goodwin, Alondra Oropeza, and Aliyah Vallejo each received $2,500 in funds to go toward their higher educational pursuits.

“The Board and I are proud to announce Abigail, Alondra, and Aliyah are the 2022 recipients of our annual scholarships,” said Ceslyn Mathis, Educational Foundation Board President. “Their dedication to education and community service helped them stand out from the more than 100 applications received. We see them creating a successful future for themselves, and we’re honored to help support their goals.”

The2022 GFWAR Educational Foundation scholarship recipients come from Fort Worth, Burleson, and Northwest ISDs, and are inspiring and hardworking members of their schools and communities.

  • Abigail Goodwin graduated from V.R. Eaton High School, where she earned the recognition of AP Scholar with Distinction. Her passion for working with low-income children led her to Community Storehouse, where she tutors elementary students and serves as president of their Junior Board of Directors. Goodwin will attend Texas A&M University where she plans to major in computer science.
  • Alondra Oropeza graduated from Trimble Tech High School. She served as senior class president and president of the Robotics Club, while also playing softball and taking college dual credit courses. Oropeza will attend Texas Christian University with a plan to study civil engineering and, having witnessed stark underrepresentation of minorities in STEM fields, intends to be an advocate, role model, and mentor for others.
  • Aliyah Vallejo graduated from Burleson Centennial High School, where she played volleyball and was on student council. She is dedicated to serving others, and volunteers with the Burleson Mayor’s Youth Council and through the City of Burleson’s Neighborhood Services Department organizing service project teams. Vallejo plans to study nursing while attending Abilene Christian University.

The GFWAR Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) that was founded in 2018 to assist worthwhile student applicants in the greater Fort Worth area.
