Speaker: Fred Slabach, President, Texas Wesleyan University, and Stacy Marshall, President, Southeast Fort Worth, Inc.

Revitalization of the campus and its historic neighborhood is part of Texas Wesleyan's strategic plan. Under President Slabach’s leadership, Texas Wesleyan has made more than $50 million in capital improvements to the campus and the surrounding neighborhood. Come hear an update on the Rosedale Renaissance, and the University's plans for the future. In addition, Stacy Marshall from Southeast Fort Worth, Inc. will provide an update on other development projects in the area.

Cost: $10 for SCR members and $25 for non-SCR members if registered by 5 pm on Monday, October 18. Reservations received after the deadline will be charged $15 for SCR members and $30 for non-SCR members.

Fred Slabach is the 20th president of Texas Wesleyan University.  Trained as a lawyer, Fred served for 15 years in a variety of positions in government including as Legislative Counsel to the President Pro Tem of the U.S. Senate and as the Assistant Secretary for Congressional Relations at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He has served for more than two decades in leadership positions in higher education including 13 years at Texas Wesleyan, first as dean of Texas Wesleyan’s Law School and now as president.  

At Texas Wesleyan, Fred has developed and executed a bold agenda that cultivates student critical thinking, has increased enrollment and has revitalized Texas Wesleyan’s home in East Fort Worth as a vibrant academic and economic center. The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) honored Fred with the 2019 university Chief Executive Leadership Award for District IV which includes the states of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma.  

Fred received his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College, his law degree from the University of Mississippi, and his advanced law degree, the LL.M., from Columbia University.  Fred is married to Pulitzer Prize nominated author, Melany Neilson.  They have three children.

Stacy E. Marshall serves as President of Southeast Fort Worth, Inc. Prior to joining Southeast Fort Worth, Inc., Mr. Marshall served as President and CEO of an area chamber of commerce and worked in Business Development and as a Consultant for various nonprofit and for profit organizations.

Stacy, who was born and raised in Mayersville, MS, a small community with a big heart, has been an advocate for community growth his entire career. After completing degrees in English and Broadcast Journalism, Stacy moved to Texas in 1999 and soon became involved in several civic and political activities. Mr. Marshall has been widely recognized for his leadership in strategic planning and growing businesses in the community with a grassroots approach. Stacy is the father of one, Javian Marshall.
