Free Bike Racks

Free Bike Racks Available to Business Owners!

Fort Worth businesses can apply for up to three free bike racks as part of the city’s effort to encourage bicycling. As part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, the city purchased a number of racks, many of which have already been installed downtown. Now, about 125 bicycle racks are available for Fort Worth businesses citywide while supply lasts. Each bike rack will accommodate parking for two bicycles.

Proposed locations must be on nonresidential private property with the approval of the property owner. Racks must be installed by the business/property owner within two months. The location will be approved by the city, and the property owner is required to maintain the bike rack for at least five years.

Providing bicycle racks encourages cycling for commuting, shopping, short trips and errands rather than automobile trips that can contribute to congestion and pollution. The availability of bike parking discourages cyclists from parking at parking meters, trees, pedestrian handrails, street signs and other structures.
